Product description

Product Description

Solwise Description: The USB WiFi Repeater supports routing from an Internet Service Provider (ISP) connection (DSL or cable modem) to a local network. It is simple to configure and can be up and running in minutes. The USB WiFi repeater supports outdoor USB adapters to repeat the WiFi signal to any indoor environment. This is an ideal set up for sharing the campsite WiFi inside your Motorhome or Caravan particularly if your Internet device does not have a USB port for connecting to the Campsite WiFi directly. For instance, many people use the Solwise Rocket product to access campsite WiFi but if you have an iPad with no USB port it is no good. The USB WiFi Repeater will connector to the Rocket allowing you to share the internet internally. If you know where the WiFi is actually coming from you could use the WiFi repeater with the NET-WL-USB-UTP2470-12 directional USB Antenna for a more targeted connection. The Solwise USB WiFi repeater supports outdoor USB adapters to repeat the WiFi signal to any indoor environment. The USB plug is plugged into the WiFi repeater which then creates a mini hotspot in your 'van or boat allowing you to connect your iPad, Smartphone, notebook, laptop or handheld games console to the site WiFi. By using a high-gain antenna from Solwise you may even be able to use free WiFi hotspots some distance away, making this kit ideal for use with the BT Fon service and other services. The mains power supply is included. This device can also be powered at 12V using the 9V car adapter listed in the accessories. In our tests the USB WiFi Repeater will work with USB adapters which have the Ralink RT3070 Chipset only. We have had it confirmed by customers that it also works with the RT3050 and 8187L chipsets. Works with any operating system as set-up is done via the browser.

CAPTURE OPEN PUBLIC NETWORK AND RE-BROADCAST FOR WIDER HOME USE

CAPTURE OPEN PUBLIC NETWORK AND RE-BROADCAST FOR WIDER HOME USE
BACKGROUND/REQUIREMENT. I have access to an 'open' public Wi-Fi signal which I currently 'harvest' using a usb antenna on a long lead to my laptop. This provides an OK service however my TVs have googlechrome dongles that I am unable to operate due to the lack of Wi-Fi signal at their location. So my requirement was to have a more powerful antenna that I could 'better' capture the desired signal and then re-broadcast throughout the property to allow wireless access to the internet and to get my chromecast dongles operational.DISCOVERED SOLUTION. I was very excited when I found a kit from 'acdctv' for £169.99 and then found them selling the same kit on ebay for £149.99; which I bought but latterly returned for a full refund. I bought the same antenna and repeater as seperates for less than half the price! Firstly, let me put the USB antenna to bed - an EDUP EP-8523 - the repeater works with its' Railink 3070 chip and this is available on Amazon for £39.99 however, I bought and paid for mine from dx.com in $ which converted to just over £20 (Halifax Clarity Card). Now to the 'Subject' of this review:THE SOLWISE USBWIFIRPT-3000 which allows you to plug, a compatible, antenna into the USB port and configure the repeater either using Wi-Fi or connecting it to a computer with a 'network-cable' (RJ45 connecter adjacent to the power connector). The information provided in the 'box' is rather 'light' however you can download a manual from the Solwise website. The setup was pretty straight-forward.IMPORTANT. Please note that the antenna is only recognised during the 'boot' process (when you apply power) so if you remove the antenna - simply replacing it will not work you need to re-boot (ie remove power and then re-apply it).It is useful to appreciate what the LEDs tell you: The 'PWR' is self-explanitory, The 'WAN' I didn't use, The USB must be lit to indicate the antenna is recognised and active, The LAN is only lit when you have a network-cable plugged in and the other end connected to a computer and finally 'WLAN' is the wireless network that your Wi-Fi devices use to get back to the internet.REMEMBER if the 'USB' LED is not lit then the arrangement will not work!

I bought this wi-fi repeater about a week ago, along with the outdoor USB panel and separate suction clamp, and have just had the chance to try it out at home on our own home BT wi-fi. First off the wifi repeater works very well when tested out in our Autosleeper Symbol Camper-van and provides an excellent signal. Set up is initially quite flakey, although if the supplied instructions are followed carefully it does connect and then sets up a personal wi-fi hot spot in your camper van. This could avoid paying double campsite wifi charges if your partner also has a device that they want to use simultaneously, (like us). Everything, apart from the initial set-up is just perfect, and I've given the product 4/5 for that, but I'd certainly buy it again.

Brilliant for those in remote areas! This Solwise repeater is easy to set up, easy to use and very effective.

The unit plugs into the mains (it can also be run off a 12 volt cigarette lighter type socket if you have an adapter lead), and plug the Solwise Rocket USB b/g/n adapter into the USB socket, and you're good to go. Let it power up and sort itself out for a few minutes, then you can connect directly to it via wi-fi on laptop, PC, iPad or smartphone. Once connected, use your web-browser to enter Easy Setup, scan for wi-fi networks, pick the one you want - and you're good to go.

We use it on our boat, connected to the marina wi-fi - and also to connect to BT hotspots when travelling. Don't leave home without it!

It actually works very well and does the job - once you get it set up properly - but it came with no instructions and configuring it could not be said to be intuitive.
I found a competitor on the web selling the same product under a different brand and downloaded their instruction sheet.
Then I was able to make it work.

Failed to work with any of my kit and kept dropping out. No manual in the box, so had to search online. Customer service, although accessible, did not offer a solution, so I returned it.
I bought the GL-iNet that worked perfectly and was easy to set up.

Bought this to replace a WiFi booster set-up I've had for a while from a motorhome wifi specialist (which wasn't cheap) and has failed again. Instead of replacing with an expensive kit again I did some digging on just buying the components (router and aerial) and got this and a Kuma USB aerial for less than £100. I've just set up it up and can report that it was a piece of cake and the set-up works just fine. Result. Hopefully reliability is just as good.... time will tell.

Worked ok for a while. Spanish summer heat killed it. Folks found the set up confusing.
