Product description

What is Captain Tolley? Captain Tolley’s is a liquid sealant/adhesive with exceptional penetrating properties. Formulated to be thinner than water, it uses capillary action to penetrate deep INSIDE the narrowest of surfaces before making a firm yet flexible CLEAR waterproof seal. It’s perfect for TRACING and sealing leaks caused by hairline cracks. Being water-based it follows the route water would take, sealing even fissures that are hidden to the eye. It’s also QUICK and EASY to use. As the sealant can penetrate deep into structures there’s no need to take items apart or put them back together. What can I use it for? In the HOME: Fix rainwater leaks in flat roofs, masonry and joinery. In the bathroom and kitchen seal sinks, shower trays, worktop joints, inset sink surrounds and such like. Make in situ repairs to veneers, wood joints, leaded windows, ceramics (teapots, bowls etc.) as well as to items exposed to the elements such as outdoor lamps. Also suitable for waterproofing earthenware items. CARS & CARAVANS Perfect for sealing windows and windscreen surrounds, rivet holes, trim, gullies and skylights. Has been welcomed by vintage and veteran car enthusiasts in particular. BOATS Capt. Tolley was originally invented for boats so it’s no surprise that it excels in this area. Very effective for fixing leaking windows, porthole surrounds, portlights, decks, coach roofs and centreboard casings. Ideal for sealing around stressed items such as deck fittings It’s compatible with wood, rubber, glass, metals, perspex, glass fibre, ceramics, concrete, brickwork and old sealants. How do I use it? Ensure crack is clean & free from grease. Apply SPARINGLY from bottle at 30 min intervals until crack is filled. Remove excess immediately with a damp cloth. Rapid penetration indicates the source of a leak, so check for wastage. Replace cap after use. For accurate control, inject with a hypodermic syringe.

It goes into hairline cracks

It goes into hairline cracks
I used it to seal a cracked phone screen. It dries to a softy rubber finish, so I had to seal it with top layer of super glue, shaving the excess with a scalpel to almost mirror finish. The super glue is not thin enough to get into a hairline cracks like that, so it helped.

Awesome! Product does exactly what it says on the bottle used to seal windscreen gaps and dodgy seals or a land rover defender. Very effective though. Takes multiple coats dries very quickly and has so far prevented leaks. Very sticky if you get it on your hands

I have used this for 40yrs ever since we had our trailer tent. Because so many things are made of plastic they can easily spring a water leak and that's the very last thing you need on your holiday and if a leak is left is causes the dreaded, expensive to fix - DAMP.
This product works like magic, the first time you use it you can't believe it is going to work, but it does. It is inexpensive, so even if you replace a never used bottle it costs very little. It is so easy to use too, just follow the simple instructions.

Didn't seem to do what it said "on the label". I tried to repair a partially cracked (thick) glass tumbler and handle i.e. a fine crack. I expected the fluid would find it's own way into the crack and you would see it fill the crack then just leave to harden. There was no sign of it filling. Just had to rock a bead of the product along the crack and back then leave (2-3 days!) to harden. HOWEVER it does seem to have worked. The crack can still be seen as before but it appears watertight and solid.

I had two leaks in the roof of my campervan which two mechanics were unable to source let alone fix. A fellow camper told me about this product so I decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised that both leaks are no more. Amazing product!

The product was easy to use. I have used it previously successfully to seal hairline cracks but on this occasion the crack was too wide and the liquid just dropped through and I had to use a silicone sealant. No problem with the item, just a misjudgment from me.

I have been holding off reviewing Captain Tolley's whilst waiting to see if it has permanently fixed the problem. The problem being water ingress on my car. For three years I have had a problem and have had the screen taken out and re bonded and roof bar mount re sealed which seemed to cure the problem until it reappeared last October. I had seen someone mention Captain Tolley's creeping crack cure and though they were having a laugh until I looked it up. So as a last try to fix the problem I bought a bottle and applied it to the suspected area nearly two months ago and can report that the car has remained dry ever since. So if this continues to last then I can only say it has been the best £16 worth I have spent and well worth recommending.

Seems to have made a good seal, with good penetration of cracks in the resin pot that I was repairing. I don’t yet know how durable the repair will be but am happy with the result so far. Only negative is that it took a lot (more than 10) coats to fill what looked like minor cracks ( less than half a mm gap) however I expect that is a trade off against penetration.

My wife has an antique ceramic pitcher that she uses to hold brewed coffee from our single serve coffee maker. It has leaked for years, we've always had to use paper towels underneath it. The cracks on the bottom of the pitcher are extremely small hairline cracks. I used this product following the supplied directions and the pitcher no longer leaks. I applied the product 5 times, probably overkill, allowed it to sit for several minutes each time and then wiped the excess with a paper towel. There is no visual evidence of the sealant having been used. The leaks are gone!
